The county recorder is the official keeper of real estate records for the county. It is this office's function to provide protection to persons and property by recording a variety of legally essential documents. The recorder accepts: Deeds, Mortgages, Mechanic's Liens, Powers of Attorney, Recognizance Bonds, IRS Liens, Corporate Franchise Liens, Subdivision Plats, Military Discharges, Worker's Compensation Liens, Partnerships and other instruments for recording
The county recorder also records all county and township zoning resolutions and amendments.

The Recorder serves a term of 4 years and is elected with the presidential election.
